Project Description

Custom events gallery and a voting system – Tight Modern

The Tight Modern, produced by Creative Future, is a miniature replica of London’s iconic Tate Modern Gallery and showcases 60 disabled and marginalised artists each time it tours.

I was commissioned to replicate their Creative Future Wordpress website and add significant additional functionality.

First off I needed to create a couple CPT’s (Custom Post Types) to handle the different events and another for the artists artwork. The CPT’s needed to be in a ‘relationship’ in order assign uploaded artwork to a particular event. The displayed artwork needed a simple PayPal purchase buttons to either buy the original artwork or digital copies. The CPT for the events were displayed on the front end as either previous shows or latest events.

Once that was all in place a custom voting system needed to be coded to allow for public voting on artworks. Voting was controlled by setting a voting start and end date on a CPT event. Voters could only vote once and if they were registered with the site and all voting data was stored on the system with an easy .CSV download facility.

Tight Modern also required a custom form to control artist submissions and so Gravity Forms was used. Apart from gathering the normal form data, the form needed to be able to upload up to five images that were within predefined dimensions. Additionally a charge needed to be set per image as part of the submission process and so a PayPal payment gateway was added. Finally the submitted artwork needed to have the file names amended to include their full name in order to make artwork identification easier for the Tight Modern staff.

Once that was all completed, all that was felt to do was make these new elements mobile responsive on the frontend and the job was done.
